Coast Terms of Service
Last updated July 27, 2026
Coast is made by one person. These terms are the plain version of the deal: you get to use the app, and you accept that it is software, not a promise that nothing will ever go wrong.
who you are agreeing with
Coast is developed and published by Mason (LeShan) Chen, an independent developer trading as masn.studio. In these terms, "Coast" means the Coast apps for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, the Coast app for Mac, and this website. By installing or using Coast you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
what coast is
Coast turns your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch into a control surface for your Mac. The phone sends input over your local network and the Coast app on your Mac turns it into real keyboard, pointer, and system events. It needs the Accessibility permission on your Mac to do this, and some features need Screen Recording, Camera, Microphone, or Local Network permissions. You control every one of those grants and can revoke them at any time in System Settings.
your licence
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Coast on devices you own or control, for personal or commercial work. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the apps, remove or alter any notices, or try to circumvent the Coast Pro purchase. Reverse engineering is only permitted where the law says it cannot be restricted.
your responsibilities
Coast posts real input events on your Mac, which means it can do anything a keyboard and mouse can do. You are responsible for what you send, for what your decks and macros are configured to do, and for keeping Coast on networks you trust. Do not use Coast to access a computer you are not authorised to use, or for anything unlawful.
coast pro and payment
Coast is free to download and includes mouse mode, the trackpad, the remote keyboard, the built-in decks, and one custom grid. Coast Pro is a one time purchase of $2.99, not a subscription, and it unlocks unlimited custom grids, macros, screen mirror, draw, laser, air mouse, appearance options, the Apple Watch app, and iCloud sync. Prices in other regions are set by Apple's pricing tiers and may differ.
All purchases are made through Apple. Apple takes the payment, holds your payment details, and handles receipts. Coast never sees your payment information. The unlock is tied to your Apple Account and can be restored on your other devices with Restore Purchase.
refunds
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by me. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is broken, write to me first and I will usually be able to fix it faster than a refund goes through.
the mac app and updates
The Coast app for Mac is free and is distributed outside the Mac App Store, because posting input events is not permitted inside Apple's sandbox. It is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarised by Apple. It checks for updates using Sparkle and will ask before installing anything. Only download it from this site or from the official releases page it links to.
changes to the app
Coast is actively developed. Features may be added, changed, or removed, and Apple's operating system updates can break things outside my control. Purchased Coast Pro features will not be moved behind a second paywall.
privacy
Coast collects no personal data. There is no account, no analytics, and no Coast server. The full explanation is in the privacy policy, which is part of these terms.
no warranty
Coast is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. I do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error free, or compatible with every app, device, or network.
limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, lost work, or lost profits arising from your use of Coast. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you actually paid for Coast in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
apple
These terms are between you and me, not Apple. Apple has no responsibility for Coast or its content and no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of Coast must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
ending it
You can stop using Coast at any time by deleting the apps. This licence ends if you break these terms. The sections about warranty, liability, and payment survive.
governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. If you are a consumer somewhere with stronger local protections, this does not take those away.
changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will appear on this page with an updated date. Continuing to use Coast after that means you accept the change.
